Note: this is a photo journal documenting the cleanup (no repair) of an 1820's Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll clock. we discovered a number of repairs ranging from 'excellent' to ''well, that's interesting'. everything was covered in carbonized filth... we used toothbrushes, razor blades, sharpened peg wood, and acetone to get the crap off.

most of the photos show the disassembling and discovery process and document what we found... only a few photos show the cleaned parts and reassembly.

re-assembling and getting the strike side right was a PITA and required voodoo bending of lift and lock levers. much was learned, fun was had, and the clock is now ticking away, perfectly in beat, and chiming on the hours.
